The 11th round of the GoPro Motorplex Karting Challenge brought great competition to Mooresville, NC making for a terrific race day for the Briggs and Stratton LO206 class. With a twenty-kart field, consisting of some of the top LO206 Senior talent in the country the Senior class was loaded with talent, fast and competitive all day.

Alex Cognac, piloting the number one Comet Eagle, having not raced a kart for nearly a year and having only raced on the LO206 platform once before, it took Cognac the first two practice sessions of the day to get a feel for the kart. After making a few setup changes, the LO206 Seniors were back on track for qualifying.

With a tough qualifying session Cognac ran a fast lap of 59.5 seconds placing him on the outside of the fifth row in tenth place to start the pre-final. Cognac had a great start to the race, making it through the toughest parts of the track with very little contact and making it through a wreck in corners six and seven. Cognac had worked the Comet Eagle Kart Carolina machine up to P6 before finally finishing P7.

Giving himself a great position to advance during the Pre-Final, Cognac started the Final on the inside of row four in seventh place. Having the kart worked up to fifth during the first lap of the race, Cognac was battling for P7 for most of the race before drafting to the end. When the while flag flew Cognac made many attempts to make the pass for seventh with none of them sticking. On the run out of turn 11 Cognac made the look inside but ended up eight, behind seventh by only eight hundredths of a second.

Happy with the result Cognac commented, “It was great to be back in a kart, I am really happy with eighth, after the amount of time that I have taken off”.
